This movie made me question my intelligence. I mean, this is not the first Christopher Nolan film that has made me feel like an unintelligent person.
The first was Interstellar - I watched the movie, I didn't understand it. I went to Quora, looked up answers that might explain it to me and till date, I've only understood 80% of Interstellar.
The second was Inception - I watched it twice, read explanatory articles before I could understand it 100%.
Well, here came TENET - I sat and watched for 2hrs+ and when the movie ended, I realized that I didn't understand wtf I just saw.
I replayed, no way.
I went to Quora and one user said that most people think that they need to understand the ending of the film while they should worry about understanding the beginning.
The beginning was a bit normal for me. Well, that was the trick.
Another user said that we confused viewers should rewatch the opening sequence and pay attention to details.
I did just that and what I discovered surprised me - the opening sequence was filmed backwards and I never noticed.
In the opening sequence, a windscreen of a car was shown with rain dropping on it while the drivers looked on.
Next, the drivers waked up the Americans they were carrying at the back of the vehicle and the windscreen was shown again.
This time, there was no rain drops - which means, Christopher Nolan filmed that scene backwards.
Little details like these that I missed contributed to me not understanding the movie at first.
Till today, I've only understood 20% of the movie and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Maybe I'll see it 8 times more to get the hang of it.
When I do, I’ll give a more detailed synopsis.
